“Don’t use Tumblr to deceptively obtain personal information. Don’t post content that violates anyone’s privacy, especially personally identifying or confidential information like credit card numbers, social security numbers, or unlisted contact information. Absolutely do not post non-consensual pornography—that is, private photos or videos taken or posted without the subject’s consent.”
As of December 17, 2018, Tumblr users are strictly prohibited from posting “adult content,” which is defined as, “photos, videos of GIFs that show real-life human genitals or female-presenting nipples, and any content–including photos, videos, GIFs and illustrations–that depicts sex acts.” Tumblr uses an algorithm to flag such content and if it is detected, the Tumblr page is reverted to a private setting that is only available to the user.”
There are exceptions to this ban, which include, “female-presenting nipples in connection with breastfeeding, birth or after-birth moments, and health-related situations, such as post-mastectomy or gender confirmation surgery. Written content such as erotica, nudity related to political or newsworthy speech, and nudity found in art, such as sculptures and illustrations, are also stuff that can be freely posted on Tumblr.”
Despite Tumblr’s policy to ban pornography, it is still possible for these images to get onto the site. In these situations, revenge pornography can be reported via Tumblr’s dedicated abuse email – email@example.com – or by flagging the post in-product.
